Moleskine vs. Rhodia

31Dec06

Moleskine’s take:

MOLESKINE IS THE LEGENDARY NOTEBOOK,
USED BY EUROPEAN ARTISTS AND THINKERS
FOR THE PAST TWO CENTURIES.

THIS SILENT AND DISCREET KEEPER OF AN EXTRAORDINARY TRADITION, WHICH
HAS BEEN MISSING FOR YEARS, HAS BEEN
REPRODUCED BY THE ITALIAN COMPANY MODO
& MODO SINCE 1998. WITH ITS VARIOUS
DIFFERENT PAGE STYLES IT ACCOMPANIES
THE CREATIVE PROFESSIONS AND HAS BECOME
A SYMBOL OF CONTEMPORARY NOMADISM.

MOLESKINE IS A FAMILY OF NOTEBOOKS
FOR DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS, ACCORDING
WITH A FREE MINDSTYLE, BOTH BASIC
AND EMOTIONAL.”

There was even an exhibit in London this past October on Moleskines! Check out some of the 70+ Moleskines by international artists, designers, architects, illustrators, and writers – You HAVE to click the link and at least scroll through the images. It’s amazing to see how much inspiration has been recorded in those black leather books!

Rhodia’s take:

“Rhodia Classic Note Pads – the orange pads with a cult following! These economical pads are a favorite of artists, designers, architects and people who like to use graph paper for notes, sketching and hand drafting.”

:: Rhodia is new to me, yet an obvious competitor to Moleskine. I came across blogs and blogs reviewing all sorts of writing pads – journalismania!

So what will it be for you?

[I would personally go for the pocket-sized Moleskines.]

This is a ridiculous argument. I think that the rhodia pads are simply over rated note pads. Moleskine notebooks on the other hand are well made leather notebooks with many intelligent features such as the strap on the front, the cloth book mark, and the pocket in the back. The pocket notebooks are of the perfect size and can be taken anywhere without bother. The paper is smooth and creamy the leather is soft and smooth and the moleskine comes in variations perfectly suited to almost any application. There can be no debating the moleskine is the obvious choice.

Yes it is. But I consider the cult concerning the intellectuals and artist who used it and who are now used by the moleskine publishers as ridiculous. Van Gogh and company had no money and needed a simple and cheap book for their stuff. They certainly had not 10 Euro for a small black book. (I wonder how expensive a moleskine was in these days?)

a notebook, is a notebook at the end of the day. I think many people will agree with the fact that there are more important things to be debating about aside from “what is the best notebokk”. SAD SAD PEOPLE
